Learn to Meditate

Shambhala Chicago is pleased to offer a wide range of support for people interested in meditation, from teaching meditation to beginners, to assisting new meditators in establishing a meaningful practice, to helping experienced practitioners maintain and expand their practices.

We offer weekly opportunities for public meditation that are free and open to the public. Many of these sessions offer brief meditation instruction provided by trained guides at the beginning, as well as an informal, guided discussion about meditation at the end. These open houses offer an opportunity to be part of a community that is supportive of your meditation practice.

We also regularly schedule programs and courses that require advance registration – these range in duration from 1 1/2 hours to weekend retreats. Programs that are specifically geared toward new meditators include: New Meditators, Learn to Meditate, and Shambhala Training Level I. Each of these programs offers the chance for meditation instruction as well as discussion about meditation. Quarterly Nyinthuns (daylong meditation retreats) are also a great opportunity to practice extended periods of meditation. Visit our Classes and Programs page to see a complete list of our current offerings. If you would like to receive our monthly newsletter, which regularly includes a list of up-to-date programming, you may sign up here.
