Public Sitting and Open Houses

Due to the COVID-19 virus and the need for social distancing, public meditations are temporarily cancelled. However, we are offering many online free and public meditation sessions.

Chicago Shambhala offers numerous opportunities that are free and open to the public to practice meditation in a group setting. Led by certified meditation instructors, our public meditations generally include periods of sitting and walking, and are followed by an optional group discussion (see below for different formats). Free meditation instruction is often available for those who arrive at least ten minutes before the meditation start time. You are welcome to come and go anytime during the open meditation hours; you do not have to stay for the duration of the sitting/discussion. No prior experience or reservations are required. Cushions, benches and chairs are supplied. There is no dress code, but it can be helpful to wear something that is comfortable for sitting for a period of time.
